Lack of Documentation

During an inspection of a papaya farm, investigators noted a number of observations in violation of the Produce Safety Rule. The violations included papayas not stored properly to prevent their contamination with potential hazards, the lack of toilet facilities for employees, no documentation of cleaning and sanitizing procedures for equipment or of personnel training.

In the FDA’s eyes, the lack of documentation is essentially the same as the lack of action having been taken. Documentation is critical for all segments of the industry, from produce to retail.
